Recommended Cache Settings for VNX
Posted: June 30, 2011 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a comment »I know there has been some discussion around what cache values to use for new VNX arrays. I stumbled upon a nice EMC primus article (emc267304) the other day which does a good job addressing these questions. The most helpful thing to remember, in my opinion, is to allocate 10 percent of the cache to read and allocate the rest for writes. You should always keep read cache between 256 MB and a maximum of 1024 MB. Therefore, EMC recommends the following read cache configurations for the different VNX models.
- 5100 – 256MB
- 5300 – 400MB
- 5500 – 700MB
- 5700 – 1024MB
- 7500 – 1024MB
